Nate’s life is not perfect by any means and the boy is not in need of any more trouble. He has faced enough in his past life and he is trying to hope for a better future which is hard to find when there is a lot of poverty spread all around. The job which Nate finds in the big city is not a highly-paid one but it is better than nothing at least.
The amount which the boy was getting was so meagre that he wasn’t able to afford a nice apartment in the city or we can say that he wasn’t able to afford an apartment anywhere. So when the apartment was finally found, Nate didn’t care even if there were mutant cockroaches in the room. He wanted shelter for the night and in the morning it was all work for the boy who didn’t have a girlfriend or any other friend in the city.
The place was a fine one if compared with the money that Nate was paying. Also, the property manager was a nice man who used to talk in a nice manner. Moreover, the neighbours proved to be friendly to Nate so he thought that he was lucky to find such an apartment.Ray Porter changes the narration a little bit when he narrates different characters in the novel and this helps in the understanding of the story. The narrator has adopted the same style here and it has blended well with this suspense tale written by Peter Clines. After a while, the main character in this story starts noticing strange things in the apartments of his friends.
In every apartment, there is a dark secret buried that is linked to the fate of the world. So at this point, Nate becomes concerned about his future and also about the future of other people living close to him.The themes of The Broken Room and Ex-Heroes will appear to be blending in this novel but it is actually not the case at all. Sometimes the audience tries to find a link even when it is not there.
