The Nightingale Audiobook
The Nightingale is a historical fiction novel. It is written by Kristin Hannah. She is a highly skillful American author of fiction novels. One of her very best novels that you could think about trying is Fly Away. Another worth mentioning novel by the author is Winter Garden. The audio narration of The Nightingale novel is done by Poly Stone. It was a substandard performance and the listeners had issues with her accent and pacing.
Vianne Mauriac was living in the quiet village of Carriveau. She said goodbye to Antoine, her husband who was leaving for the Front. She was not convinced that the Nazis would invade France, but she was wrong as the Nazis succeeded with their invasion. They came in in hordes of marching soldiers along with their tanks and trucks.
They were in planes as well that dominated the sky and dropped bombs on many innocent people. The time when a German captain requisitioned the home of Vianne, she along with her daughter must look to live either with their enemy or otherwise, just lose everything they had. Without having any money, food, or even hope, and having danger escalating from all sides, she was pushed hard to make an impossible choice there. It was needed to keep her family safe and alive.
Isabelle was an 18 year old sister of Vianne who was looking for purpose with her reckless youth passion. She met a partisan, Gaetan who believed that the French could fight the Nazis from France. Moreover, she fell in love with him as well. But, when he betrayed her then Isabelle became part of the Resistance and she never looked back.
The story of The Nightingale is very good, but at the same time, it is quite intense and depressing as well. It shows an extreme level of brutality against women ad even children which might traumatize listeners of this book.
