Two experts in their field have two different cases at hand and they need each other to get to the killers before they run away forever. Renee Ballard was thrown off the case because of a mishap that she cannot forget and that single case took her confidence away from her forever.
She thinks that she might not be able to hold her head high again in her life but life gives her another chance to enter the force and regain her lost dignity. The chief of police calls her and gives her the elite Robbery-Homicide Division which means that she has all the resources in the world to catch the criminals. Still, she has to prove herself that she is worthy of the post.
She must catch the criminal who has been involved in cold murder. After much pondering, she goes to Harry Bosch for help who himself is busy with a serious case that has been haunting his mind for many years. The case is linked to the murder of an entire family and Harry thinks that the killer is still out there.
Renee asks Harry if he can use all the resources that she has in her command for the solution of his case on the condition that he helps her first. The two don’t fully show commitment to the thing but they have no other option. City of Bones and Nine Dragons possess tricky criminals and the two killers who are on the run in this novel are also quite clever. The killers have been able to deceive the two agents who are the best in the business.
