Temptations are hard to crush especially at a time when you need serious help. Suzanne Wright writes about a troubled girl who just wants to live free. Yes, Harley Vincent is a shifter by birth but she is not like the other shape-shifters of her clan. She wants to live as a loner because she does not want to serve the pack and its needs. Also, she has never found her true mate who could force her to join the pack once again.
Jesse the male from the Mercury pack did form a bond with Harley once but it was for one night only when both of them were unable to resist the ever-growing temptation. Since then both of them have not spoken to each other and developing a relationship is not an option for Harley. Suddenly the situation shifts when the humans start getting rid of the shifters and Harley finds herself on the run.
She is left with no safe house where she can stay and this is where Jesse enters her life once again and offers her a place in his pack that is already in a mess. Jill Redfield narrates the crazy feeling which Jesse possesses for Harley. Jesse is not like the lusty male present in Fallen and The Favor rather he wants Harley to choose and decide.
Harley for most of the novel remains undecided because she does not want to join the pack that is already in trouble also she has started to like her life in the human world. Here she can move freely without any duties or worries of any kind.
