The book has certain themes because of which it is not appropriate for children. Kristin Coley has actually designed the book for adults only. From love making to action scenes in the novel, everything is for the adults which is narrated by Beth Roeg. It is a welcome to the world of Jess Carter i.e a girl who wants everything cool and calm in her life. She doesn’t want any kind of disturbance or distraction in her life.
Coming to high school was her aim and now she wants to complete her senior year that’s all. She has not made any kind of friends in these years and a boyfriend was not an option at all. Jess wanted to keep herself away from her father so that he might not do such things that could make her feel insulted.
Then there is a boy who is constantly trying to approach her and he wants to make her a mate. None of this pleases Jess and when she thinks that someone is after her seriously this time then she is left with no option rather than to join the Pack. The Pack has the type of guys we saw in The Alpha and The Challenge.
Joining the Pack brings more trouble for Jess because she finally selects a side in the war which has been going on for centuries. The two sides have been trying to take over the town for a long time and now Jess is also participating in the war which means a farewell to the senior year permanently. In order to survive, she has to be close to the Pack all the time which alarms her as well.
