American Dirt (Oprah’s Book Club) is a fiction novel. It is written by Jeanine Cummins She is an American writer of Puerto Rico and Irish heritage. If you like the author and want to try more of her books then go with her The Crooked Branch novel. Moreover, A Rip in Heaven is another fantastic book that Jeanine Cummins has written. Yareli Arizmendi did a good job with the narration of this book and the performance was enjoyable for the audience.
Lydia Quixano Perez was from Mexico. She was running a book store and has a son named Luca, who was the love of her life. She had a wonderful husband as well who was a journalist. Cracks were beginning to show in Acapulco city of Mexico which was due to the drug cartels there. But her life in a way was still quite comfortable.
She knew that she wouldn’t sell but still she stocked some of her favorite books in her bookstore. Then a man came to her store to buy a few books and two of them out of his choice were her favorite. His name was Javier and he was charming. He was also part of a novice drug cartel there which had taken over a good part of the city. Then their husband of Lydia shared that his profile of Javier was published and after that, their lives would never be the same.
Lydia along with her eighth year’s old son was forced to flee and their status changed to immigrants in the USA instantly. That was believed to be the only place where Javier couldn’t hurt them. They were yet to settle down there and then Lydia suddenly had a feeling that everyone there was trying to run away from something. But what exactly were they all running from? Everything about American Dirt is extraordinary. It is quite suspenseful and the language of this book is very beautiful along with a story of immigrants that will open your heart.
