Shadow, the man with great skills and talent was finally caught by the police and was sent to prison by the court. Some thought that the man finally got what he deserved but that was not the case at all. He got caught because he wanted to be caught so that after imprisonment, he can finally lead a life of an ordinary man with the woman he had fallen in love with.
For a long time, Shadow kept on dreaming about the time when he will come out of prison and meet his lovely wife. His dreams got shattered when his wife and best friend died in an accident a few days before his freedom. For Shadow, there was nothing to live for and he thought that his life has become aimless. At this point, the author Neil Gaiman provides Shadow with a new opportunity to rise again.
He is hired by Mr. Wednesday as his bodyguard and also his hitman. New challenges start coming to Shadow every day and he becomes quite amazed because he wasn’t thinking of such a life after prison. The man who narrated The Sandman: Act III i.e George Guidall is back in action in this novel. At first, Shadow thought that he would be securing his boss only but later he realizes that the entire United States is at stake.
It is Shadow who can save them both and there is a danger that he might lose his life in the process. The creator of Fortunately, the Milk takes the story to the burning point here before making the conclusion of the story. Shadow is finally given a mission to give the performance of a lifetime and on this occasion, he is not worried about his life.
