Don’t try to guess the pattern of Nora Roberts’ stories because the author does not follow the same pattern all the time. This is the style that the author started in Year One and The Choice. The audience liked this change very much so Nora continued with it till the present day. Almost all the novels Nora has written are about women and those women get stronger as the story progresses.
Reece Gilmore is strong from the start because she is able to save herself when there was no hope around her. She happens to be the sole survivor of a terrible accident. This has become a matter of the past and the woman is now trying to start a normal life. Getting the entire thing out of her system was not easy but moving here and there on the mountains has relaxed the lady a little.
One day while hiking on the top of the mountain she saw something strange down the hill. A man and woman were arguing about something and then the man killed the woman right on the spot. Reece hurried down the mountain and on the way she met a man named Brody. The two came to the spot quickly but there was no one there. The police were also called but the policemen failed to find any kind of track.
They thought that Reece has imagined the entire thing because her psychological condition is not trustworthy. Joyce Bean’s narration gives us the message that even Reece is not sure of the situation after a while. Still, she thinks that there is something seriously wrong and she must get to the bottom of the case.
