The characters in Patricia Briggs’ stories are always aggressive in their stance and they are ready to take any kind of challenge which comes their way. Mechanic Mercy Thompson is one of those characters as she is not afraid of anything. Being a shape-shifter, she thinks that she can take on any challenge that is thrown at her.
She has fought demons of the kind which have been observed in Bone Crossed and Silence Fallen. Now she thinks that she is ready for anything but she is proved wrong when a close friend asks her for some help against someone who is not an ordinary being even a vampire. Mercy has many friends who are not humans of course and one of them is a vampire.
That vampire asks her for some support against another vampire of his kind. Mercy agrees to this thing because Stefan was one of her close friends and fighting a vampire was not new for her. However, when she confronted that rival vampire she started thinking that she has made a mistake. That vampire was not like other supernatural beings which Mercy has faced previously rather he was with extraordinary strength and it means that he possesses a strange or rare kind of demon inside him.
Lorelei King narrates Mercy not as a scared character because this is one thing that she does not know about. She gets surprised to see such a powerful vampire initially and then she decides to take him on with full force. She knows that the monster can kill her but she is confident that she can do the same to him as well.
