Fable happens to be a young girl in a world where men have the power to dictate terms. There was a time when she had a family but that was four years ago. Her mother was a skilled character and her father happens to be a renowned trader. It was her mother who taught her all the skills to survive on her own. The day her mother died, she lost a true mentor, and then in the morning, she found that her father also left her on the island that was notorious for thieves and pirates.
Fable was unable to understand the reason behind her father’s deed. Instead of losing hope, Fable started finding a way out of the island so that she can reach her father and ask him the reason for his deed. During her hunt for help, she met West who possessed a ship of his own. Together they form a team and start looking for Fable’s father.
During their journey Fable found out that there was an increase in the number of enemies that were looking for Fable and her father. They have to remain alive if they want to complete their task. The real face of West is also unveiled in the middle of the story and Fable thinks that she cannot trust anyone except him.
Emma Lysy has narrated in an extraordinary way to show the development of love between the two characters who are running for their life. Adrienne Young knitted The Girl the Sea Gave Back and Sky in the Deep about isolated characters and it is always a single character who is fighting against all the odds. Fable too is a strong and clever girl who knows how to survive.
