Gone with the Wind Audiobook
Linda Stephens has been blessed with the kind of voice which is perfect for such stories that are linked to a specific era. This is the era of the Civil War when things were changing after every passing moment. Margaret Mitchell also gave herself quite a big task when she started writing this specific novel. It is limited to a fixed span of time and is not spread over the decades like The Cold Millions.
Rhett Butler and Scarlet are the characters who become the mouthpiece of the author in this book. The two characters show the true desires of the era and the ways which people were adopting at that time. Loyalty was slipping away quite quickly at that time and there are two other characters named Ashley and Melanie who provide a different points of view in the novel.
The story would not look quite complex apparently but there are layers in this story that unfold slowly. This novel became an instant hit at its time because of its characters and the situation which was presented. Everything about the novel is precise and to the point. The author has not tried to paint things that would appear to be different or not part of the scenery.
Such things don’t blend in well and destroy the impression and expression of the story. The conclusion is written in such a way that most of the things are left to the listener to decide and different people can predict different things about the future of the characters. We can decide in our mind what sort of future would be better for the characters who have survived all the changes.
