Honor Gillette lost her husband after a few years of her marriage and she has been trying to put that tragedy in the past for a purpose. She wants to live for her daughter now who is the only close relation she is left with in life. So she does not try to remember the tragedies of the past as it could make her daughter’s life miserable.
One day her four year old daughter comes into the house and tells Honor that there is a sick man in their yard. Honor thinks that she should help the grieved man but when she reaches the place, she gets stunned because it was Lee i.e the man who was wanted by the police. Lee killed seven men, a day ago and now he was looking for a place to hide from the police. Lee assured Honor that he will not bring harm to her happy family if she cooperates and helps him in hiding from the police department.
Actually, Lee came to Honor’s house with a purpose, he told her that her late husband had something quite valuable in his possession and now Lee needs that item. Honor gets surprised at first but she is ready to do anything for the sake of her daughter. It was assumed that the author Sandra Brown reached her maximum potential in Seeing Red and Mean Streak but the perception is incorrect because this story is even better.
The way a single mother starts fighting for her daughter is amazing. Honor also gets the chance to know that the people around her were also not quite supportive after all. The fabulous voice of Victor Slezak has kept the same style for the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
