For the past decade J.R. Ward is describing true love along with some lust involved in the vampire world. The vampires of her stories are soft hearted all the time because they have love for someone hidden in it. In A Warm Heart in Winter and Dark Lover Jim Frangione narrated about vampires who were crying in the absence of their dear one who was taken away from them. Zsadist never had love in his life because he was a blood slave and thus the past is not what he looks at with pleasure. He faced hatred and his body still feels those pains which it once suffered from. Time has changed now and he feels the freedom which he is not willing to enjoy now because he has no one to share his free life with. In this period of life he meets Bella i.e a human soul who appeals to him.
Bella also shows her concern for this lost soul i.e Zsadist and both form a nice friendly bond between them. For the vampire the relation is very precious because he thinks of it as a way of redemption which he never expected in his dark life. Suddenly the sinister past haunts the vampire yet again when Bella is taken away from him. He must find Bella at any rate otherwise his present and future would be ruined forever. In a desperate search for love and redemption Zsadist collides with the mightiest forces of the land. Once the blood slave now rises as a hero against all the evil for one human soul which he must save for the sake of his own life.
