Mary Robinette Kowal has written this beautiful novel about a woman and her wild passion that force her to take part in an awesome mission. The author has narrated the book on her own because only she was able to convey her point of view clearly to the audience. Novel does not take us to the future rather it makes us travel to the year 1952. A gigantic meteorite falls on the surface of the earth and as it destroys a large section of US, the human race thinks that it is time to spread its wings to the moon.
According to the mathematicians of the world it was the same kind of meteorite that destroyed the dinosaurs and the humans will suffer the same fate if they don’t take a step against all of this. Experts from all over the planet are called for a mission that will take the masses to the moon. But first calculations are needed and people like Elma come forward in this regard.
Elma is not only a mathematician but she is also a very good pilot that’s why she is preferred to be sent on the journey to the moon. There were other women like her too but somehow she got the chance to live her dream in space. The Relentless Moon and The Fated Sky could be taken as other parts of this book written by Kowal. The author really has magic in her pen, she starts a thing simply and they put in it her special ingredients which turn a simple thing into an absolute wonder. Elma’s dream initially becomes true in the story but she never was able to guess what was there in space.
