The Shadowed Sun is the second chapter of the Dreamblood novel series. It is a fantasy fiction story which is written by N. K. Jemisin. She is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy books. A wide range of themes is included in her fiction where oppression and cultural conflict are the most notable ones. The Fifth Season is one of the most popular books by the author. The same could also be said about her The City We Became novel.
The audio narration of The Shadowed Sun novel is done by Sarah Zimmerman. It was a good performance by doing well in differentiating the characters and conveying to the listeners the distinct personality of each.
Gujaareh was known as the city of dreams. It was suffering a great deal in the imperial rule of the Kisuati Protectorate. It was a city where peace was the only law but it then changed into oppression and severe violence. People there were having nightmares. There was a deadly and mysterious plague that haunted the entire city of Gujaareh and its residents, dooming the plague-ridden to just die screaming while asleep. The people were badly trapped between the cruel overlords and the dark dreams. They yearned to rise but the city has known peace for too long.
There must be someone who could show them the way. Hopes were with a couple of outcasts. The first one was a woman allowed for the first time to become part of the priesthood of the dream goddess. The other was the exiled prince.
Jemisin is an excellent storyteller and The Shadowed Sun is no exception. It is wonderfully written with an excellent world setting along with top-class narration as well.
