The 19th century was quite famous for witches and other magical curses. Paula Brackston has selected the era of the 19th century in this novel because dark magic is at the core of this novel. We observe that from a very young age Morgana just doesn’t speak anything but it does not mean that she is not attractive. The girl has good looks and also she is quite able in the household works. Her magic is powerful yet she has not used it against anyone in her surroundings because of her good nature.
Also whoever wants to harm her or thinks about negative things against her faces deadly consequences in the form of a curse. Because of all these rumors, no one in the village wants to marry Paula. Her mother who was worried about her marriage finally found a good suitor for her in the form of Cai who was from another village.
Cai was from a different village that’s why he knew nothing about magic and curses. The marriage was splendid and Paula soon started liking and then loving her husband. In the new village, the girl gets the chance to use her magic in a better way thus she gets more charged up, for this purpose Marisa Calin has added an extra sparkling tone in narration.
Everything was going fine and then tragedy like that in Secrets of the Chocolate House and The Witch’s Daughter started to haunt Paula’s life. Someone in the village tries to get rid of her and her magic. The man makes the people of the village go against her and Paula is forced to use her magic in full strength to save her husband and herself.
