Water for Elephants

Water for Elephants is a fiction novel. It is written by Sara Gruen. She is an author with dual nationality in USA and Canada. A good number of her book just like the subject title deals with animals and she is a supporter of several charitable organizations that are into animals and wildlife welfare. You will find Sara Gruen at the best of her writing skills in At the Water’s Edge. Moreover, Flying Changes is another brilliant book that she has written.

The audio narration of Water for Elephants is done by David LeDoux and John Randolph Jones. The narration was very good and the best part of this book.

Water for Elephants tells an atmospheric kind of a tale of love and life within a traveling circus that belonged to the Depression Era.

The story of this novel started with the character of Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski who reflected on his wondrous and wild days that were spent with a traveling circus. It was the Depression Era and on the other side, Jacob found himself penniless and parentless. He became part of the Benzini Brothers’ Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

It was there he met with the grifters, freaks, and misfits who populate that world. Jacob introduced us all to the beautiful and charming start of the equestrian act. Her name was Marlena. We will also be introduced to August, who was quite charismatic and handsome but a very twisted kind of a husband. He was also the animal trainer of that traveling circus. The next introduction was of Rose who was an untrainable elephant.

The story of Water for Elephants is quite slow, even the good narration couldn’t keep the listeners interested for too long.
